Grotesque art entered the field of visual art since the early 19th century, and then was widely used in the field of visual design in the early 20th century，which has been continuously penetrating into the modern culture fields such as design and advertisement. Although there are many studies on grotesque in the academic circle, however, there are very few researches in the field of aesthetics, especially in the advertising design field, and most of which are lack of the insightful understanding of grotesque art and its characteristics. This study first discusses the correct understandings of grotesque and grotesque art, then discusses the origin relations between grotesque and visual arts, especially advertainment design, and outlines the features of grotesque art combined with the relative theories of "aesthetic morphology" and grotesque aesthetic. The case study shows that grotesque aesthetic is valuable in visual arts, which is helpful to improve the creators’ abilities of creation and conception, to enrich the visual language, to enhance the expressiveness and quality of design works, to increase the competitiveness of the design works.
