청년마을 로컬콘텐츠의 장소자산 활용 연구 : 태백시 ‘광광스토리지’ 사례를 중심으로

As a countermeasure to the crisis of local extinction, the Youth Village project is being implemented across South Korea. This study aims to examine how local characteristics are utilized within this project and to assess its effectiveness. To this end, the study analyzed the utilization of place assets in the local content of youth villages, focusing on 'Kwang-Kwang Storage' in Taebaek City. For the analysis, categorized the place assets into physical, cultural, and emotional-symbolic elements. As a result of the study, the physical elements included coal mining facilities and residential areas, the cultural elements comprised the lifestyle and culture of miners and residents, and the emotional-symbolic elements consisted of recollections and memories related to mining culture. These place assets were utilized in various aspects of Taebaek's youth village local content, including the overall environment, items, and storytelling. From the planning stage, Taebaek's youth village focused on developing mining culture content based on these place assets, thereby regenerating the region's endangered industrial heritage and preserving its sense of place. The utilization of place assets provided both local and urban youth, who are the primary producers of local content, with an opportunity to recognize the locality's identity and maintain a connection with the region. It fulfilled the original role of combating the crisis of local extinction. This study contributes to expanding the analytical scope and perspectives in research on regional revitalization policy projects through a case study of the youth village.
