Exploring the Perceptions and Demands on Physical Education Programs in After-school Care of Elementary Schools among Employed Mother

초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions and demands on physical education (PE) programs in after-school care of elementary schools among employed mother. To achieve this objective, 321 working mothers from 5 different elementary schools located in Seoul were recruited to complete the questionnaires which consists of items regarding their perceptions, satisfactions, and demands toward the PE programs in primary cares. The results revealed that 95.6% of participants perceived that after-school care program should provide PE programs and 89.3% of their children were interested in the PE programs. Further, participants particularly emphasized the instructor’s character when it comes to teaching their children and instructors with degree in PE with education and nursery department background were preferred. Finally, both parents and children preferred the PE program among other programs in their after-schol care. In conclusion, the demand toward PE programs among employed mother was high enough to reasonably conclude that elementary schools should adopt PE programs in their after-school care.
