Does Financial Development Promote Income Equality?

This study empirically tests if financial development promotes income equality. Using panel data for OECD countries from 1970 to 2007, a regression analysis using a pooled OLS and a fixed effect model was conducted. The results of the analysis suggest that (contrary to the findings of previous empirical research examining the relationship between financial development and income inequality) financial development is positively associated with income inequality.
