포스트휴먼과 그 이웃(1) -기술시대의 노인-

초록

This thesis names those that are alienated and ostracized in a post-human age in which human ability is enhanced with the power of scientific technology 'neighbors of post-human' and focuses on 'the elderly in an age of technology' as the first type of neighbors. The elderly in a post-human age are subjects who can most actively receive the assistance of technology. This is because it is believed that scientific technology can aid the elderly overcome the limitations of their old, diseased, and decrepit physical bodies along with social alienation. However, observations of reality show that it cannot be denied that the situations of the elderly in an age of technology are progressing in ways that are different than what we expect. The social discrimination that the elderly experience is different from discrimination due to race or gender. Human gender and race are forms of biological nature that represent identities that cannot easily be changed. On the other hand, even though aging is a stage of human life that progresses regardless of race or gender, social discrimination related to it is much more complex and contradictory. Therefore, this study attempts to make observations of the effects that technical development in a post-human age has on the elderly and human living along with the changes it brings through the analysis of film and animation contents. For this, first, it explores the dilemma of 'the cyborg elderly', which has appeared as a new social issue as aging and death have come to be viewed as issues of technology that can be overcome. Second, it examines how the ways that people accept death have changed as the human lifespan has become extended and observes the meanings of 'good living' and 'dignified death'. Third, it will ultimately look into the life that we pursue through convenient technology.
