수도권으로의 이동에 따른 경제적 효과에 관한 연구

초록

There has been a continuous migration into the Seoul Metropolitan Area(SMA) in Korea over the last few decades. There may be many reasons for the migration, but previous research argued that economic incentive is one of the major factors that play an important role in determining the migration decision. The purpose of this study is to examine the economic effects of migration to the SMA. In this study, people who moved to the SMA after being born and raised outside the SMA were distinguished from the people who had not made a move. The economic differences between the two selected groups were analyzed using the Korean Labor & Income Panel Study (KLIPS). The empirical analyses showed that people who moved to the SMA have higher income and assets than people who did not. It was found that the income gap between the two groups has been constant, in contrast, there has been a increasing asset gap over time. Random effects models were applied to investigate the pure economic effects of relocation after controlling the socio-demographic characteristics of people. The evidence from the panel models demonstrated that the main variable of the research which is related to the relocation showed statistical significance for both differences of income and asset.
