후보연쇄 최적성 이론에서의 입력형에 관한 쟁점: ‘무임승차’ 입력형 전략과 그 문제점

초록

This paper discusses the explanatory adequacy of the Optimality Theory with Candidate Chains (OT-CC), a novel version of OT proposed by McCarthy(2006, 2007), especially focusing on the inputs. It shows that the input indeterminacy under the principle of Richness of the Base is problematic in OT-CC. It also shows that the free ride input strategy proposed by McCarthy(2005, 2007) cannot provide an alternative for eliminating the input indeterminacy problem from OT-CC. In conclusion, it is argued in this paper that OT-CC cannot be compatible with the principle of Richness of the Base in accounting for the situation where it is difficult to decide the direction of allophonic alternation.
