Serverless computing is an innovative cloud computing paradigm that alleviates infrastructure management burdens for developers while offering cost-efficiency and scalability. However, cold start latency, which occurs during the initial execution of functions, and the difficulty in implementing complex business logic through workflows remain significant challenges. This paper reviews various approaches and recent research trends aimed at addressing these issues. Regarding the cold start problem, we analyze solutions such as function pre-warming, container reuse, and optimized runtime environments. We also examine orchestration tools and frameworks for workflow management. Furthermore, we propose future research directions, including intelligent optimization using machine learning, novel programming models, and integration with edge computing. © 2025 IEEE.
