디지털 이미지 시대의 주체와 객체의 변증법적 관계: 새로운 유물론과 질 들뢰즈에 대한 재독해를 중심으로

초록

The political implication of most of widely prevalent discourses on digital cinema in these days is closely related to ‘the nonhuman turn.’ When the core of such discourses is outlined roughly, the advent of egalitarian objective world, which exists independently beyond the human-centered subjective/objective asymmetric relationship, seems to be emphasized and pursued. Among others, the attributes of digital technology which transcend human cognition seem to realize such dreams. However, they are rather similar to a fetish resulted from the capitalistic abstraction of them. In this stream, it is necessary to give a new position to nonhuman things by critically reconstructing the philosophy of new materialism which has had powerful effects on digital image discourses and Gilles Deleuze’s philosophy on which new materialism is based. The term ‘nonhuman’ implies a condition or an effect from which a subject can emerge, rather than meaning an inaccessible thing beyond the subject. Tony Scott’s Deja Vu (2006) is an interesting example of it. Eventually, this study argues that only when such a relationship is generated while maintaining the frame of relationship between the subject and the object, a nonhuman thing beyond the relationship can be materialized. In this vein, the thing seems to have a virtual position. Of course, this does not mean that the nonhuman discussion of digital discourses is a virtual thing and must be discarded. On the other hand, this is ‘an inevitable virtual thing’ and therefore can play the role of a certain medium that can be separated from capitalist’s fundamental contradiction of working out such an inevitability.
