군조직과 군복무에 대한 한국인의 인식

초록

The present research aims at examining how korean people see the armed forces and military services and exploring the ways to improve the status quo. For this purpose, how cultural changes have influence on the armed force related perception in Korean society is investigated. It was found that Korean society embedded in communal culture becomes to put more weight on personal rights and benefits mainly because of inflow of Western individualism. Academic research of this issue was then reviewed, which revealed that there are a paucity of domestic studies which deal with the armed forces seen in the eyes of Koreans. Further, it was examined how the military are seen in the Korean mass media. They are attuned to the issues at North Korea. They are also inclined to pick up problems and corruptions related to the military than shed light on their positive sides. On the other hand, overseas studies focus on identifying factors to contribute to making positive impressions on the military applicants of the services. Further US mass media tend to focus on the positive aspects of the military, which is sharply contrasted with the position of US mass media. Finally, the ways to improve the recognition of Korean society for the armed forces and military services. Specifically increased academic studies, efforts on the side of the military, mass media, and government are suggested for reach this goal.
