초록
Can Chinese Novels be clearly defined? The answer to that question still seems like a long way off. However, the problem of Chinese Novels is only mentioned by some researchers, and only partial parts of the problem are studied. This article was written to improve the problems of this prior study. To do it, we are going to conduct a critical review of Lu Xun’s novel theory, which had a huge impact on Chinese Novels theory. It is important in that Lu Xun explored the etymology of "XiaoーShuo(小說)", and he focused on studying Chinese Novels about "an appetite for writing(作意)". However, there are two limitations in his novel theory. The first problem is the confusion of the word "XiaoーShuo". And, there is a limit to the fact that Lu Xun have failed to conduct rigorous research to meet the "an appetite for writing standards" that he proposed by himself. In order to improve his theory, this study suggested that alternatives should be established in two areas. First of all, in terms of a study for the History of Chinese Novels, we need to deviate from Lu Xun’s research style. And it is necessary to discuss alternatives to novel theory. For example, as for "an appetite for writing standards", according to strict standards, a review of the whole Chinese Novels should be carried out. Also, a way to define a Chinese novel was proposed as a ‘non-normative’.
