The objective of this study was to identify factors that affect elderly women's health promotion behavior residing in rural area. The subjects were 208 women aged over 65 living in rural area. Data were collected from March 2013 to April 2014 and analyzed using SPSS WIN 18.0. Variables influencing health promotion behavior were education level (t=4.172, p < 0.001), subjective health status (t=3.100, p=0.002), self-esteem (t=2.605, p=0.010), and peer support (t=4.834, p < 0.001) with an explanatory power of 48.4% (F=23.345, p < 0.001). Promoting positive self-image and encouraging use of social support systems would aid this population's health promotion behavior; health promotion programs that consider these variables will also be helpful. © 2014 International Information Institute.
