초록

This thesis aims at understanding the operational aspects of the Biraeseodanggye by analyzing its members and unique features from the 17th to 19th century. Biraeseodang is an educational facility located in Naenammyeon, Hoedeok-hyeon, Chungcheong-do. Its scale was extended in 1637 when Eunjin Song family as they extend the school building in Biraeam. It was considered that Biraeseodanggye was launched in this period as well. The materials related to Biraeseodanggye that are remaining today are including Biraeseodanggye (飛來書堂座目)(1), Biraeseodanggye (飛來書堂座目) (2), Biraeseodanggye (飛來書堂座目)(3) and Okryugakgyecheop (玉溜閣契 帖). The data reveals that Biraeseodanggye was operated from the middle of the 17th century to the early 18th century. It was once discountinued in the middle, but was re-established in 1883 under the name of Okryugakgye. It is believed that this Gye was operated until the early 20th century. In regards to its operation, the meetings of the Biraeseodanggye were set to be held in March and September. In the case of the Gye, which was re-established at the end of the 19th century, Dogi from 1883 to 1907 remains. Through this, you can find out the date of the actual meeting, the list of executives, etc. Most of the meetings were held in March and September every year. The major difference in operation of the Biraeseodanggye between from the mid 17th to the early 18th century, and at the end of the 19th century when the system was rebuilt is Beolmok. In the case of the Beolmok from the mid 17th to the early 18th century, regardless of the social status of the person who are getting punished, all punishments for Sangbeol, Jungbeol and Habeol were Taeno which is corporal punishment of slaves for the masters misbehavior. On the contrary, in the end of the 19th century, Saryu and Jangja were treated differently. Biraeseodang was the family school of the Eunjinsong family. From the mid 17th to the end of the 19th century, the Eunjinsong family was accounted for more than 60% of the members of the Biraeseodanggye. From the mid 17th to the early 18th century, the members who didn’t belong to the Eunjinsong family were people bound by marriage or by academic background, and their descendants. It implies that the Biraeseodanggye served not only to teach but also to enhance the unity of forces centered on the Eunjinsong family. On the other hand, a distinguished feature in terms of the members of the Biraeseodanggye at the end of the 19th century was that among the Eunjinsong family, the Dongchundangpa, descendants of Song Jun-gil, accounted for the majority. In addition, various surnames other than Eunjinsong, which did not appear in the mid 17th - the early 18th century, were confirmed.
