‘나비의 꿈(胡蝶夢)’과 가상현실

Post-Humanism, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, cyborg etc. These words are no longer the preserve of science fiction novels and films. Now they reveal their concrete figures in real world. Compared to technological advances at unexpected rates, Philosophical study reading the change is relatively lagging behind. This paper is philosophically tried to analyze on the nature of virtual reality and “Dream of the Butterfly” as its motive from Zhuang-zi(莊子) Qiwu(齊物). “Dream of the Butterfly” is a kind of fable that presented symbolically configuration and effect of virtual reality. Although virtual reality and reification are not the same state, but it is a meaningful work to reinterpret the implications of this fable on the changing current. So far, studies on virtual reality and Post-Humanism mainly have been proceeded by phenomenology and analytics in Western philosophy. I think that “Dream of the Butterfly” could play an important role in explaining virtual reality, but it is very unfortunate that there are few related studies. Vitality of classics expands and has new applications in response to the changing times. It requires the efforts of the oriental philosophy to cope with the actualization of virtual reality. It is a major task for philosophy, across the East and West, to interpret philosophically the changing new world that has become a reality with advances in technology. “Dream of the Butterfly” can be interpreted in many ways according to the perspective. As a result, the position on the ‘reification’ is also different. On the part of Zhuang-zi’s philosophy, being a butterfly or himself is merely a change of shape, not a change of true ego. Reality also does not have a clear substantiality. Dreams and reality are the same in one constantly changing phenomenon. Here, the virtual reality plays a key role in understanding Zhuang-zi's philosophy of denying the physical ego.
