Purpose This study aims to quantitatively analyze the academic knowledge structure and systematically identify major research trends in new sports in Korea. Methods Using domestic academic databases (KCI and RISS), we collected 546 research articles related to new sports. We then applied BERTopic, an advanced natural language processing-based topic modeling technique, to analyze the data. Results The results identified eight core research areas: physical and psychological development of students, pedagogical innovation, inclusive values in adapted physical education, social and emotional benefits, policy support and dissemination strategies, international expansion, and technology convergence for future-oriented innovation. The student effectiveness topic formed one cluster, the teacher and policy topic formed another cluster, and the special education and technology convergence topic was relatively independent. Conclusion At the same time as the research centered on student effectiveness, newsports research expanded to include pedagogy, policy, special education, and technology application. This suggests the need for differentiation by field and future exchange and convergence research.
