초록
Done Elvire lives a quiet life in the covenant. She is taught to live there as a virtuous woman and to devote her life to God. Don Juan, a shameless tempter, arrived to court her for marriage. Even though she knew all about him, she gets married and soon after rejected by him. Since we are examining Done Elvire's temptation by Don Juan, we intend to look at cases in which the tempted is aware of the identity of the tempter. The discourse of temptation is spoken as if it was the discourse of love. It resembles a form of courtship that resonates with the listener. However, the discourse of courtship is true while the discourse of temptation is false; the discourse of courtship wishes to establish a real relationship while the discourse of temptation tries to achieve a different object through this relationship : in this point, the two discourses are quite different. The strategy of temptation is so to make the listener believe that discourse is true and to conceal a different objective through the success of courtship. Don Juan does not deny the tags attached to him that he is tempter. If he does, he shows his true face: tempter. It’s just like in the theater: to create the illusion, we fill the stage with the real object instead of saying that the spectacle we are assisting is not fiction, but real. Dom Juan, by circling Done Elvire de lover's discourse and suspending her meta-discourse, makes her to engage his speech: she does not account for his tags. This does not last forever, but just as a dream, the plays down the lights in the audience which was interrupted meta-discourse is working again. This wakes Done Elvire from the illusion that Dom Juan truly loves her. This is because the reality can be maintained simply by just filling the stage. But if the public shares the emotion of specacle, the effect of real remains in his body after the curtain. Approaching Done Elvire with true passion of love, Don Juan makes sure his love is solid by having this experience. Dom Juan’s temptation for Done Elvire is filled with the theatrical metaphor; like the drama which moves the mind of the spectators by sharing the information and the emotion effectively, Dom Juan knows how to open the heart and conquer the mind by his love.
