초록
This study examined psychological factors associated with drug use intention among Korean university students, focusing on the moderating role of meaning in life. A survey was conducted with 377 undergraduate students (110 males; mean age = 21.2 years). Measures included loneliness, sensation seeking, stress, and meaning in life. Hierarchical regression analyses and simple slope analyses were performed. The results indicated that sensation seeking had a significant positive association with drug use intention. Loneliness and stress were related to drug use intention primarily through its interaction with meaning in life rather than through a direct effect. Meaning in life showed a significant main effect, and it demonstrated significant moderating effects in its interactions with loneliness and stress. Simple slope analyses revealed that loneliness significantly increased drug use intention among individuals with low levels of meaning in life, whereas this association was attenuated among those with high levels of meaning in life. In addition, meaning in life functioned as a protective factor by reducing drug use intention under conditions in which no stress events were reported. These findings suggest that drug prevention education should move beyond information-based or externally controlled approaches and be expanded toward meaning-centered interventions that support young adults in exploring and constructing a sense of purpose and direction in life.
