앱 세대의 사회적 관계와 행복: 사회적 연결망의 규모와 유형 효과

초록

This study aims to analyze the effects of the social relationships of adolescents, referred to as the “App Generation”, on their subjective perception of happiness, using the Adolescents’ Happiness Index Survey conducted by the Bang Jeonghwan Foundation. The major results of the study are as follows: First, the effect of the size of social networks on happiness shows a reverse U shape relationship. As the size of friends increases, the happiness index rises, but when the happiness index goes beyond a certain size, it falls again, showing a nonlinear curve. Second, in on-line centered patterns of the social networks of adolescents, the size of social networks does not affect adolescent’s happiness at all. It implies that on-line networking today helps to maintain the social capital already accumulated rather than enhancing it to create new social capital for adolescents. The study concludes that social networks do not always play a positive role in enhancing adolescent’s happiness. It suggests that patterns of networks result in different effects of social networks on the happiness of adolescents.
