Regional Differences in the Impact of the Open Door Policy on Income Growth in China

초록

The analysis shows that exports and income growth rates are highly correlated for the relatively rich coastal provinces with high export shares in national income. The rapid rate of exports growth has not affected growth in the interior region. Because of the regional differences in the degree of economic development and the concentration of exports in the rich coastal region, the differences between the regions appear to be inevitable. However, it should be noted that the interior region grew more rapidly than in the coastal region and exports expanded also more rapidly in the interior region than in the coastal region. Thus to some extent the interior region's rapid economic growth should be attributed to the rapid growth in exports.
