가야계 ‘신라인’의 활동과 위상에 대한 검토

초록

After being annexed to Silla, there were big differences in status among the people from Gaya. Such differences were first made depending on which country they were from amongst Gaya, what positions they have had in those countries, and what the process of becoming Silla people were like. However, it was what they did after becoming Silla people that made the differences more pronounced. King Guhae of Geumgwan-guk and his sons took the lead in surrendering to Silla, so they were able to have the opportunity to be incorporate into the ‘gol(骨)’ class of Silla’s capital. They did not stop there, but also obtained the highest level of positions through distinguished services in war and politics. Based on that, they made marriages with the royal figures of Silla. Finally, they became ‘the same family’ with the Silla’s royal family. As members of the royal family, they started to use the surname ‘Kim(金)’, which is the (old) Kim clan of Silla. However, not all royals of Geumgwan-guk who surrendered to Silla were treated the same. The royal family members who remained in Gimhae and their descendants could not become the capital people who can have a surname. There was a case in which a local influential person used ‘加良’ in place of a surname when engaged in diplomacy with Japan. Later, some of them also had the opportunity to become the capital people through their services as Silla people. They obtained a surname by genealogical connection with Kim Yu-sin family, but could not use the surname ‘Kim’ as itself, but to use ‘新金(new Kim)’. It was when the central government’s control over the provinces weakened in the late period of Silla that those who still remained in Gimhae were able to use surnames. They no longer had to be conscious of ‘the Kim clan of Silla’. Some of them chose to use the surname ‘Kim’, and it can be said that it was not the (old) Kim nor the new Kim clan of Silla, but the Kim clan of Gimhae originated from Gaya.
