초록
Unlike conventional endoscopy, images captured by capsule endoscopy are downloaded and retrospectively interpreted by a physician. Therefore, it is essential for physicians to be familiar with normal capsule endoscopy findings, as various factors should be taken into account for precise reading. A capsule endoscope intermittently captures two images per second as it passes through the gastrointestinal tract, including the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. The distinction between normal and abnormal may be ambiguous, and the detection of lesion sites may even be challenging. A capsule endoscopy enables direct visualization of the small intestine and ascending colon. However, imaging may occasionally be interrupted by various reasons. Considering that images captured by capsule endoscopy are different from those obtained by conventional endoscopy, distinguishing normal from abnormal endoscopic lesions is essential. Understanding the nature and endoscopic findings of capsule endoscopy will help improve its diagnostic yield in clinical practice. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2022.
