초록
Recently, disruptions in the supply chain caused by unexpected shocks, such as natural disasters, accidents, etc., have arisen as a critical issue causing increased damage to businesses. Thus, many firms are concerned about how to manage inventories to minimize carrying costs caused by these unexpected and terrible shocks in the supply chain. In this paper, we present a decision making model to minimize the total expected cost of the system when disruptions occur in the supply chain due to unexpected shocks. We examine OWMR (One-warehouse Multiple- retailers) systems, consisting of one warehouse and multiple demand points, and discuss alternative methods to cope with damages from future uncertainties, such as supply chain disruptions. We discuss an optimal inventory distribution percentage for the warehouse and retailers to hold in order to minimize the expected cost of a supply chain configured as a OWMR system. We derive the conclusion that if the disruption probability is specific, an optimal inventory distribution ratio based on the disruption probability showed to be the most efficient method to minimize the overall expected cost. In addition, we found that if the retailer’s inventory carrying cost per unit is relatively high, reducing inventory levels and bearing the penalty costs of an inventory shortage is more effective in terms of the overall expected cost of the supply chain.
