In this paper, the possibilities and challenges of poetry creation using generative artificial intelligence were examined from the perspective of the co-creative subject. First, the creation process and outcomes of two poetry collections, ‘The Reason for Writing Poetry’ and ‘9+i’, in which generative artificial intelligence participated, were analyzed, and their limitations were assessed. By comparing poems written by two artificial intelligence models from The Q Group, the potential of generative artificial intelligence as a co-creative subject was explored. Based on the achievements so far, it was determined that it is difficult to regard generative artificial intelligence that writes poetry as an independent creative subject, and the focus was on its potential as a dialogic co-creative subject. Furthermore, prior to developing a generative artificial intelligence poetry creation model, it was emphasized that we must reflect on essential questions such as why we want generative artificial intelligence to create poetry and what kind of poetry we intend to have it write. Finally, based on the potential of generative artificial intelligence as a co-creative subject, it was suggested to utilize it for hybrid imitation poetry writing or parody poetry writing as a form of self-expression and reflection in liberal education. Considering the possibilities of poetry creation education as part of the humanities liberal education, it was believed that the experience of poetry creation through critical dialogue holds great potential to be a good model for cultivating citizens in humanities education.
