초록

This study investigates how social exclusion affects the psychological adjustment of children with disabilities and explores policy implications for social inclusion. Using data from the sixth wave of the Panel Survey on the Disabled in Korea, the analysis focused on 455 elementary school-aged children born between 2011 and 2016. Social exclusion was measured across six domains-education, health, social participation, social relationships, discrimination experiences, and mobility-while psychological adjustment was assessed through disability acceptance, depression, and self-esteem. The analysis employed multiple regression to test the impact of each domain of social exclusion on children’s psychological adjustment. Results showed that disability acceptance declined mainly with exclusion in health, social relationships, and discrimination; depression increased with exclusion in social relationships, health, and mobility; and self-esteem decreased most strongly due to relational and educational exclusion. These findings highlight the multidimensional and complex nature of social exclusion, showing that each domain influences psychological adjustment through distinct pathways. The study contributes by empirically validating these differential effects and provides an evidence-based foundation for policies that promote inclusive development and enhance the psychological well-being of children with disabilities.
