The Effects of Self-Leadership on Employee Innovative Behavior and Organizational Commitment: The Mediating Role of Job Engagement

초록

This study examined the effects of employees' self-leadership on their innovative behavior and organizational commitment and the mediating effect of job engagement on the relationship between these variables. To test the hypotheses, data were collected from 193 employees of Korean companies located in Seoul and its metropolitan area. The findings of this study are as follows. First, employees' self-leadership was positively related to their innovative behavior and organizational commitment, respectively. Second, self-leadership was positively related to job engagement. Third, job engagement was positively related to innovative behavior and organizational commitment, respectively. Fourth, it was found that job engagement partially mediated the relationship between self-leadership and innovative behavior and the relationship between self-leadership and organizational commitment, respectively. Finally, this study provides theoretical and practical implications of the findings and discusses research limitations and future research directions.
