The sustainable and eco-friendly development of nuclear power plants has become the key attention. The extended utilization of radioactive materials in agriculture, industry, nuclear power plant, and nuclear medicine has prompted an expanded prospect of radioactive pollution of water. This waste is a by-product of nuclear industries and has been firmly measured as a highly toxic material to the environment. The techniques assumed for dealing with radioactive waste primarily depend on segregation and storage, but there is slow progress toward sustainable waste removal. Nanomaterials are utilized for the next-generation water decontamination system. Due to their exceptional characteristics, nanomaterials become a novel type of adsorbent for radionuclide removal. Hence, this chapter delivers a comprehensive overview of various nanomaterials that are illustrated in application for radionuclide removal. Finally, the challenges for the removal of radioactive waste through nanomaterials were discussed with the light on the direction of future research. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
