교육국제화 특구 자율시범학교 외국어교육 프로그램 실태 및 교사 인식 조사

초록

This paper aims to check the current state of foreign language education, in particular, English education, implemented in Special District for Educational Internationalization and propose future directions. For this purpose, documents from six schools in Incheon Special District were collected and analyzed. In addition, in order to investigate teachers' perception on foreign language education, this study further conducted survey with 128 teachers, and a group interview with six English teachers in the schools. The results reveal notable differences in their emphasis on English education between primary and secondary schools. While primary schools considered English as one of many competencies required to be future talent, secondary schools placed a more central role on English. In actual implementation, however, primary schools were more active in changing their regular curriculum to incorporate English education than secondary schools which simply changed English teaching methods. Overall, the teachers have a positive perception on foreign language programs and facilities, but they feel they are short of sufficient teacher training. They further suggest that English education should be implemented as part of general globalization education, which needs to be accompanied by teacher training, and personnel and administrative support. Based on the results, directions and suggestions for foreign language education in Special District for Educational Internalization are made.
