방유룡 신부 생애와 가계에 대한 재고찰

초록

In this paper, I examined Bang Yuryong ’s childhood and his family. Based on the baptismal certificate, Bang Yuryong was born in Jeongdong on April 5, 1900, and baptized on April 7, two days later. In addition, based on the family register of Bang Yuryong’s brother, Bang Yurin, it is highly probable that he moved to Jukcheomjeong, Seoul, after living with his brother in Suwon when he lost his father. There was no clear evidence of academic achievement before the entrance to the seminary or life in childhood due to lack of data. I researched his family around Bang Yuryong’s grandfather and father. Previous study regarded Bang Yuryong’s grandfather as a high officer in the Joseon Dynasty. However, there wasn’t any data to verify his status. Furthermore, it was impossible to confirm even the name of Bang Yuryong’s grandfather. On the other hand, for his father, Bang Kyeonghui, his career history data remained. Based on the data, I was able to reconstruct the trace of Bang Kyeongheui at a short scale. However, there is a limit to the fact that I wasn’t able to confirm anything other than Bang Kyeonghui’s career as an officer of the Korean Empire. The main reason for the difficulty in studying the family and childhood of the Bang Yuryong is because there is no data left by himself. Nevertheless, there are many people who want to know more clearly about the life of Bang Yuryong, and the latter era of the Joseon Dynasty is meaningful in the history of Korean Catholicism. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the interest and research about it.
