ZN orbifold compactifications in AdS6 with a Gauss-Bonnet term

We present a general setup for junctions of semi-infinite four-branes in AdS6 with a Gauss-Bonnet term. The three-brane tension at the junction of four-branes can be nonzero. Using the brane junctions as the origin of the ZN discrete rotation symmetry, we identify three-brane tensions at three fixed points of the orbifold T2/Z3 in terms of the four-brane tensions. As a result, the three three-brane tensions can be simultaneously positive, which enables us to explain the mass hierarchy by taking one of the two branes apart from the hidden brane as the visible brane, and hence do not introduce a severe cosmological problem. © 2001 The American Physical Society.
