Predictors of adolescents’learning flow : On basic psychological needs and achievement goals

초록

The study was to identify predictors of adolescents’ learning flow on their basic psychological needs and achievement goals. The subject were 906 middle school students in Seoul and Gyeonggi. These subjects were categorized as being either high or low on learning flow scale by using high 30% and low 30% splits. Overall, the subjects within each of the two learning flow groups were 555 students. Pearson's correlations indicated that basic psychological needs(i.e. autonomy, competence, relatedness) and achievement goals(i.e. mastery goals, performance approach goals) were positively associated with learning flow. Multivariate Analysis of Variance showed that the high learning flow group had higher basic psychological needs(i.e., autonomy, competence, relatedness) and achievement goals(i.e., mastery goals, performance approach goals) than the low learning flow group. A binary logistic regression analysis indicated that 88.1 percent of the students in the two groups were accurately classified in respect to basic psychological needs and achievement goals. Results are discussed in relation to theoretical implications in school settings.
