Simulating Traffic for the Proposed 2014 PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games

The purpose of this paper is to describe the processes and results of the traffic simulation analysis for the proposed 2014 PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, Korea. Transportation goals of the proposed 2014 PyeongCgang Games include provision of transportation services to the Olympic families within 30 minutes to their competition venues. The City of PyeongChang is located in the mountainous North-Eastern part of Korea connected by the four-lane YeongDong Expressway. In order to assess the implementation strategies for achieving transportation goals, four scenarios have been simulated: two alternative parking schemes for the two peak days of the Games period: the opening day and the first Saturday. The paper presents the detail descriptions of simulation processes, data and results that would shed light on formulating the efficient transportation plans for the proposed 2014 PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
