초록
This study empirically investigate the factors affecting self-esteem among single-person households, with a focus on housing and living environments, and analyzed how these factors differ throughout the life course. The main findings are as follows: First, housing and living environments were identified as crucial in shaping self-esteem, with key determinants including residential area, tenure type, satisfaction with living conditions, and health. Second, the effects of these factors varied significantly by life stage: for young adults, housing type was the most decisive; for middle-aged individuals, tenure type marital status were critical; for older middle-aged individuals, residential area and employment status had a significant impact; and for elderly individuals, both residential area and housing conditions(specifically compliance with minimum residential standards) emerged as key determinants. Third, life satisfaction consistently had a positive influence on self-esteem across all life stages. Finally, mental health-particularly the presence of depressive symptoms-was found to be a significant factor affecting self-esteem, regardless of age group. In summary, these findings underscore the need for micro-level policies that consider life-cycle characteristics and the importance of promoting inclusive housing policies to improve the overall quality of life for single-person households.
