초록

The purpose of this study is to review self-perceptions of children and adolescents according to developmental stages. The interest in enhancing children's self-perceptions in sport and academic situations likely arose out of the research that has been conducted over the last several decades to show that individuals' perceptions of themselves and their skills, abilities, and competencies are related to their performance, behavior, and health (Harter,1996b, 1999;Eccles & Midgley, 1989; Eccles, Midgley, & Adler, 1984). In exploring these developmentally based trends in regard to age-related changes in children's and adolescents of themselves and their abilities in the physical domain, future researchers would do well to explore the full developmental range.
