엔화환율 변동이 한국의 수출에 미치는 영향

초록

This paper examines the relationship between Japanese yen and the exports of South Korea. Japan and South Korea have very similar industrial structures and have many export items in common. Therefore, the change of Japanese yen critically affects the exports of South Korea which has export-oriented economic structure. Previous literature shows that yen negatively affects Korean exports, but, unfortunately, academic research on this topic has been relatively rare. This paper estimates the effects of yen on Korean exports in terms of the characteristics of goods, detailed items, and export target countries. The results show that the effects of yen are different with respect to the characteristics of goods, detailed items, and export target countries. In particular, it was shown that the influence of yen on the exports of South Korea began to attenuate in a few export items and export target countries, especially after the 2008 global financial crisis.
