초록

The purpose of this study is to conduct a national survey and provide a brief overview of family therapy practice in Korea. Survey questionnaires were mailed to family practitioners in various human service agencies and they were asked in terms of physical environment, service process, therapists, models and techniques used in their agencies. Results from 157 participating agencies are as follows. First, in addition to family therapy, these agencies provided various types of services including individual and group therapy as well as other indirect services. Second, most of these agencies had relatively short history of service provision. Only 15% of all agencies had provided services for more than 10 years. The physical environment where sessions took place were found to be at the minimal level. Third, lack of skills and knowledge in family therapy as well as heavy workload were reported to interfere with agency's capacity to provide better services. Lastly, family therapists reported receiving various types of training including solution-focused model and exhibited the most interest in narrative approach training.
