The relationship between cultural diversity, moral intuition, and metacognition

초록

This study explored the relationship between cultural diversity, moral intuition, and cultural metacognition. Cultural diversity emphasizes the sharing and mutual respect for diverse cultural values. Depending on the culture, the oriented moral values may be different. Depending on the culture, the process and content of an individual's moral intuition and cultural metacognition may be different. This study analyzed studies related to the last 6 years (2016-2021) using the Critical Interpretive Synthesis (CIS) analysis method of Dixon-Woods et al.(2006). The result of study found that cultural diversity affects the formation of moral intuition and metacognition, and metacognition acts as an evaluative thinking that can improve the content and process of moral intuition. However, cultural diversity does not necessarily bring about moral diversity, and it is difficult to say that moral intuition and metacognition are also diverse. Neither cultural metacognition is essential to the causal process of moral intuition. In other words, cultural metacognition can be seen as indirectly affecting moral intuition in the process of moral reasoning after moral judgment. These results provide implications for moral education reflecting cultural diversity.
