초록

The building sector accounts for about 38 % of global carbon emissions, making the realization of zero-energy buildings (ZEBs) a key step toward carbon neutrality. This requires improvements in building energy efficiency and the integration of renewable energy sources. This study evaluates the indoor environmental and energy performance of a horizontal solar cell-integrated window (HSC_W), a novel window-type BIPV system, to assess its suitability as a building envelope component and optimize its visible light transmission (VLT) and solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC). Mock-up experiments and computer simulations were conducted for Low-e windows and HSC_W to analyze indoor environmental performance, photovoltaic (PV) generation, and building energy consumption, while optimizing VLT–SHGC combinations. Mock-up results showed that HSC_W reduced indoor illuminance relative to Low-e windows but improved the thermal environment by blocking solar radiation. Simulations indicated that HSC_W increased lighting energy consumption by 6.0 % and heating by 9.5 % compared to Low-e windows, but reduced cooling by 14.6 %, leading to a net 1.3 % decrease in total energy use. Annual PV generation of 12,066.2 kWh further reduced net energy consumption by 21.1 %. Additional optimization of thermo-optical properties achieved another 2.27 % reduction under optimal conditions (VLT: 60 %, SHGC: 0.4). Based on the ZEB Grade 5 feasibility scale in the Republic of Korea, the energy self-sufficiency ratio (ESSR) of HSC_W varied with VLT–SHGC combinations, with four of nine exceeding 20 %, thus meeting mandatory ZEB requirements. These results provide a foundation for advancing HSC_W as an energy-efficient envelope component and expanding its applications.
