유주현 단편소설의 아이러니 미학과 비판적 현실 인식
초록
Yoo Joo-hyun is a well-known author of historical fiction that includes five volumes on The Korean Governorate. His short-story aesthetics have rarely been discussed. He debuted in 1948 with the publication of Bunyo's Streetin Baekmin, and contributed to Baekmin. Lee Jung-ho criticized his debut work in Creative Poetry Review - The Desire to Move (Wan), a harsh assessment for a budding writer. Lee's criticism primarily stated that the literary work did not go beyondthe “realm of essays.”Therefore, Yoo was not an active writer until the 1950s. In 1955, after the end of the Korean War, Yoo caught the attention of the literary community with 24 Hours in the Oil Fields. This study captured the absurd realities of the 1950s. Borrowing the classical literature style, Yoo boldly criticized social reality using allegory techniques. Yoo used the allegory technique to elevate the social criticism narrative to a higher level. His 1962 work Imjin Riverdrew more attention because it criticized the U.S.–South Korea relationship, particularly the criminal behavior of the U.S. military. This work used irony to raise public opinion against the “Administrative Agreement.”In 1976, God's Eyesdepicted the scars of the Vietnam War in a concrete narrative by interweaving Kang's narrative with the observations of “I.”After the fall of Vietnam, the voices of the soldiers who fought the Vietnam War were suppressed. Yoo revealed the mental scars endured by the Korean society, by depicting the narrative of the Vietnam War wrapped in the narrative of an elderly man with disabilities. In each era, Yoo used sensitive issues in Korean society as the subject of literary representation. The poverty of the 1950s was expressed by personifying “money”in Oil Field 24 Hours. The artist's social engagement was realized through literature by creating Imjin River, which addresses the 1962 Paju lumberjack raid. After the defeat of Vietnam in 1975, he attempted to highlight the scars of the Vietnam War as a social issue by depicting the wounds of precious soldiers in God's Eyes. These works are significant in that they criticize reality through literary detours using the techniques of allegory and irony.
