초록

The aim of this study was to find indicators affecting severity of child neglect and to suggest implications, with its findings, for social work practice for families and children at risk. Using the sample of 263 school-age children, a series of analyses were executed to examine 1) the degree of chid neglect experience, and 2) individual, family, environmental, family communication factors influencing child neglect. Findings of the study indicated a considerable number of children(55 out of 263, 20.9%) experienced any kind of child neglect victimization during the past 12 months. Findings of hierarchical multiple regression also identified that the degree of family communication showed a significant relationship with severity of child neglect, even after controlling for influences of other variables in the model. Along with major findings of the study, implications for social work practice and policy were discussed.
