A Study on Classical Fashion Design from the Newtro Perspective

초록

Recently, the trend of reinterpreting the aesthetics of the past with modern sensibility has emerged, and classical fashion is a timeless style that shows reinterpretation and expandability in contemporary fashion. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to understand the concept and characteristics of classical fashion from the perspective of Newtro, and to derive Newtro characteristics by examining the types and reinterpretation methods of classical designs implemented by Dior, Calvin Klein, and Prada, where Raf Simmons served as creative directors. The research method was conducted in parallel with theoretical and case analysis studies, and the scope of the study was limited to S/S-2016 in Dior, where Raf Simmons served, S/S in 2013 and S/W-2019, and S/W in 2021 and S/S-2025 in Prada. The research conclusions are as follows. First, traditional legacies and forms were recreated with a modern sense, not just retro, through dismantling and reconstruction. Second, popular culture emotions were fused through experimentation through the fusion of classical elements of each brand, and the boundaries between genres were broken. Third, it was expanded to an inclusive design that accommodates various identities and sensibilities, and fourth, visual pleasure and emotional communication were induced through the playful dismantling of fashion norms. This is of academic significance in that it presents new possibilities for contemporary classical design and the meaning of new fashion.
