공학도의 창의성 증진을 위한 융합교육 방안: 미술 기반 융합교양 수업 사례를 중심으로
초록
As creativity has been recognized as one of the key factors to drive the future society and economy, the interest in curriculum and pedagogy to foster creativity has recently been increased. Accordingly, convergence education, which aims to enhance the capacity to use knowledge and information in various disciplines such as arts, humanities, and social sciences to solve problems, has been highlighted as a suitable strategy to improve creativity. Meanwhile, in the high paced high-tech sector, where new products and technologies are emerging rapidly, creativity to solve a problem or to design a novel artifact is essential for future competitiveness. However, although it is critical to educate engineers to be creative thinkers and problem solvers, fostering creativity has not been a priority in engineering education. Despite the recent efforts toward embracing creativity in college education, progress has not been significant in college engineering courses. The purpose of this study was to document a recent practice in engineering education with regard to convergence education opportunities to enhance students' creative skills. To do this, this study introduced a convergence education course, designed for engineering students to develop their own creative thinking skills by using art-based learning experiences. Throughout the course, students participated in a series of problem solving practices that encouraged them to wonder, discover, and innovate. Students survey results showed that convergence education was found to have some positive effect on the promotion of creativity, especially those related to convergent thinking and creative problem solving.
