A Study on the Author’s Intention for Connecting-Ending in Text: Columns to be Analyzed

초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze and see that connecting-ending carries the intentions of the writer at the text level. First, we assumed that the connecting-ending of connectivity carries cohesion and intentionality in text, and we wanted to analyze this. Using van Dijk’s macro-structure and Rhetorical Structure Theory(RST) as an analysis tool, we wanted to find out the role of connecting-ending in the context of “Column,” an argument text written by an expert writer. After analyzing 10 columns, we found out that the context of writing long sentences using connecting-ending in highly cohesive argument text carried the hidden intentions of the writer. I used “-only” to focus the readers’ attention and attract the readers to the content of the article. The use of “-(으)며” was characterized by its distinctive aspect. Even the same writer did not use it in the writing that carried the superstructure of the argument. In the same context as the essay, “-(으)며” was often used. It was confirmed that the connectingending of connection could have affected the writer’s “intention” and “cohesion.” The connection of causal expressions such as “-아/어서” and “-니까” was not used. It was not preferred to reveal one’s arguments with superficial verbal expressions. We will conduct a comparison with the context of using access surveys, and conduct a quantitative study of the context by using equivalent connecting-ending. We want to supplement thisin subsequent studies to produce more reliable results.
