Exploring Perceived Factors and Needs for Enhancing Early Childhood Teachers’ Self-Efficacy in Digital Competence

초록

This study aimed to explore the factors and needs that early childhood teachers perceive as related to enhancing self-efficacy in digital competence. To this end, individual and group in-depth interviews were conducted with twelve early childhood teachers who were interested in digital education, and the collected data were analyzed using the constant comparative method. The findings of the study were as follows. First, early childhood teachers identified a variety of factors that influence digital competence and self-efficacy, highlighting positive experiences with digital tools as particularly important. Second, teachers reflected on the need to adopt an attitude of positively evaluating their own digital competence. Third, teachers expressed a need for concrete examples of digital education practices and clear criteria applicable to early childhood settings Fourth, teachers emphasized the necessity of both material and human support to strengthen their digital competence. This study is significant in that it suggests educational directions for expanding early childhood teachers’ digital competence and enhancing their self-efficacy. The findings are expected to serve as foundational data for promoting digital education in early childhood education settings in the future.
