Research and Development of a Hong Gil-Dong Jeon Chatbot Prototype based on a Chatbot Builder - Focusing on Fusion Education in Classical Novels and Computational Thinking -

초록

This study presents the research and development of a Hong Gil-Dong Jeon chatbot prototype in a visual novel form based on the fusion of a classical novel and computational thinking, in an attempt to expand the possibilities of classical literary education through chatbots by promoting the fusion of computational thinking, which operates in the chatbot design and realization process, with a classical novel to prepare for the AI era. This fusion chatbot can revise the old delivery methods of education centered around the college entrance exam and a linear understanding of classical novel narratives, instead inducing the recontextualization of classical novels based on learners’ independent experiences, interactive experiences, and voluntary participation. As it is difficult to program a chatbot for the entire collection of classical novels, the present study chose Hong Gil-Dong Jeon as a raw text for the research and development of a chatbot prototype in the interactive visual novel form. A chatbot prototype was developed through the steps of conception, design, making, demonstration, and revision. Access to the chatbot prototype is now provided at the chatbot builder Danbee AI link (https://bit.ly/37f7CrW). The process of classical novel education was analyzed during the prototype research and development phase, and game design elements were devised with continuity and spontaneity as core values to enable learners’ independent learning. A plan was made to include potentially controversial elements of Hong Gil-Dong Jeon in the design elements of the prototype; based on these concepts, characters were created and scripts were written. The chatbot was created in a trial format, then operationally tested and revised for any errors. The fusion of classical novel education and computational thinking might seem complex, but computational thinking that focuses on processes and procedures can make up part of a learning approach to promote learners’ independent and phased understanding of classical novels. Such fusion education will expand the possibilities of education in the humanities and reinforce autonomous learning experiences in a changing era with the advancement of science and technology.
