제14회 런던올림픽대회(1948)의 한국 참가 과정과 그 평가에 관한 연구

초록

This purpose of this study is about observing the Korean’s pairctipation and first olympics held in London in 1948. After the independence, it was a golden opportunity for the Chosun to show their colors at the London Olympics. The overseas Korean’s residing in the United Staets of America did their utmost to make th e Korean’s get approval from the International Olympic CommitteeI(OC) on the 20th of June 1947 so that the y could participate in the London Olympic games. Upon acceptanceo f the entry to the London Olympics the Korean Olympic Committee(KOC) decided to secure the funding and organize a Olympic Supporters Association. In order for the Olympic Supporters Association to havei nfancial support to participate in the Olympics ,sponsorship rights were sold, films were released, operetta performances were held, etc. The Korean Olympic Committee had many complications and difficulties to overcome before they could secure a place where they could support their olympic teams and individuals. Korea was rnaked 37th out of the 69 participating nation s by acquiring 2 bronze medals. As the Korean ranking was so low, especially in the marathon race, opposed to the high hopes of the nation, physical education training became of heightened interest.
