청소녀의 가출 후 경험 연구: 경계들 사이의 생존 지대를 찾아

초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze runaway girls’ surviving experiences. Based upon in-depth interviews with ten girls who have runaway experiences, we explored their diverse survival strategies using the networks and social resources. Utilizing limited as well as unstable networks and insufficient resources, runaway girls keep across the social rule to neglect their subjectivity in labor market and the cultural and material conditions that make them vulnerable sexual and labor victims. Especially, runaway girls outside the boundary of social safety net tend to be a easy target of labor/sexual exploitation due to ‘young’ women’s position in androcentric society. However, they try to make use of various strategies such as fabricating their original age to enter labor marker, utilizing their only resource of body/sexuality, or sometimes protesting against sexual violence. In addition, the girls’ prostitution and ‘conditional cohabitation’ to be taken as a survival strategy reveal the young girl’s positionality intersected with age, class, gender, and sexuality, which cannot be simply understood by the dichotomy of choice/coercion and object/subject. As a result, through navigating between resistance and adaptation, subsumption and negotiation, runaway girls continue to carving out the spaces as struggling with given material condition, social exclusion, and cultural stigmatization. Moreover, the fact that a key determinant in runaway girls’ life path is ‘who they encounter with’ in what conditions emphasizes that we have to thoroughly investigate their unstable conditions of life rather than focusing on a particular behavior and provide them with alternative institutional encountering.
