미국 패권의 재건축: 오바마 정부의 글로벌 아키텍처 구상과 그 한계

초록

Stricken by wars and the Great Recession, the Obama administration of the United States has set out to pursue the strategy of “national renewal and global leadership.” Along with economic recovery and smart power to mobilize America’s diverse power resources efficiently, the Obama administration is banking on global architecture (of alliances, partnership with emerging centers of influence, and regional organizations and global institutions) in its efforts to preserve American hegemony. This article traces how global architecture has been envisioned and has framed America’s 'forward deployed diplomacy” in Asia, especially vis-a-vis China, and examines the vision’s limitations and prospects.
