A Study on the Design of Smartphone Interface Based on the Kano Model -Focused on Samsung Brand-

With the recent development of smartphones, interest in interface design is increasing. Users want an intuitive and personalized smartphone experience, and smartphone manufacturers are facilitating the development of more advanced interfaces. The purpose of this study is to analyze design requirements focusing on Samsung smartphones, propose smartphone interface design guidelines to improve user experience, and assess their potential application. This study identified the basic requirements for interface design through literature research and interviews with smartphone users, and derived user interface requirements by summarizing and classifying them according to Nielsen’s ten usability principles. Using the Kano model and the Timko customer satisfaction coefficient, among the 20 quality attribute items, 4 attractive quality (A) items, 5 one-dimensional quality (O) items, 8 must-be quality (M) items, 3 indifferent quality (I) items, and 0 reverse quality (R) items were classified to identify factors that affect the user experience and to establish priorities. The requirements ranked as the top three overall priorities are ‘time/date display,’ ‘simple layout,’ and ‘routine terms.’ This indicates that it is important for users to have access to basic information such as ‘time/date’ at any time, a concise and aesthetic layout, and easy-to-understand everyday terms to meet the most fundamental demands in smartphone interfaces. Based on the analysis results, 12 smartphone interface design guidelines were proposed. The findings of this study help designers more accurately understand user needs and create smartphone interfaces that meet users’ expectations. Additionally, the design guidelines proposed in this paper provide a theoretical reference for smartphone interface design and are expected to promote the continuous optimization and enhancement of smartphone interfaces. However, as the study was conducted with a limited sample size, future research should include more extensive user data.
