초록

The present study provides an empirical validation of the beneficial effect of languaging (Swain, 2006a, 2006b, 2010, 2013a) on students’ second/ foreign language (L2) learning motivation. Languaging, or ‘the activity of mediating cognitively complex ideas using language’ (Swain & Lapkin, 2011: 105), emphasizes the power of expressing one’s ideas in a variety of cognitively demanding contexts. Languaging activities, such as recounting one’s life history, an uncommon form of narrative, have been implemented in applied linguistics by Swain and colleagues (e.g. Knouzi et al., 2010; Swain, 2006a, 2010; Swain & Lapkin, 2011; Swain et al., 2009). © 2019 Mari Haneda, Hossein Nassaji and the authors of individual chapters.
