액션⋅로맨스⋅드라마 장르 웹툰에 나타난 여성 캐릭터의 성역할 고정관념 : 네이버웹툰과 카카오페이지를 중심으로

This study examines how female characters are portrayed in webtoons of the action, romance, and drama genres in the modern era. For this purpose, a total of 60 webtoons were selected from Naver Webtoon and Kakao Page, and 141 female characters were analyzed. The results of the study showed that female characters in webtoons were more likely to play supporting roles than lead roles in action and drama genres, and students were the most common occupation across all genres. In addition, gender role stereotypes were more prevalent than male gender role stereotypes, and female gender role stereotypes were more prevalent in action genres than in other genres. There were differences between webtoon genres and roles. Female characters in webtoons tended to be portrayed as physically thin, emotionally moody, warm and vulnerable, psychologically anxious and depressed, tearful and affectionate, and victims of violence. The significance of this study is that it empirically verified that female characters in webtoons are sexually instrumentalized or otherized as socially weak according to gender role stereotypes.
